For your consideration is a gorgeous Art Nouveau style sterling silver pocket knife by the English (Sheffield) firm of George Wostenholm, one of the premier English makers. I'd date this knife to the last quarter of the 19th century. It depicts a half-nude mercury-esque female figure w/ up and down-swept arms amidst swirling design work. The lanyard is intact and the bolsters are marked "sterling". Due to its size (3 1/2 inches CLOSED) it was most definitely meant to be carried by a man. The bolsters, blade and file do show some wear consummate with the age of the knife, but the overall condition of this rare Art Nouveau piece is excellent. This would be a wonderful addition to any collection of vintage pocket knives OR Art Nouveau / Deco figural metal items. Call or stop by the shop for more details!
