Red covers with gilt portrait of Lincoln. water spots on the fronts which removed color in several places, moderate shelf wear, else very good. "Profusely illustrated with contemporary cartoons, portraits and scenes." The cartoons in the first volume relate mainly to situations in which Lincoln was actively concerned, as a Whig politician and later as a Republican. In the second volume, Lincoln had become a figure in the arena of presidential politics and appears as the familiar "Rail-Splitter" or as a champion of the Northern cause. Interesting captions and explanatory text accompanies the numerous illustrations.
